Custom scenery packages for X-Plane
version 8/9
These packages add details to the major airports (eg. taxiway corrections, terminal buildings, jetways) and other major landmarks (eg. stadiums). They are not intended to be the most extensive and detailed available, but to provide key enhancements without huge framerate hits, and to be offered (absolutely!) as freeware.
These packages use the "DSF overlay" system (introduced in X-plane 8.30).
DSF overlay packages do not provide the basic scenery, they just add to it. This allows custom scenery packages to be much smaller than before, drastically reducing download time. You must have the appropriate default scenery installed.
NEWS 28 April 2008 More scenery packages have now been updated, and now include enhancements from OpenSceneryX. This latest collection indluces Dallas, London, and Singapore!
With the recent release of WorldEditor (WED), we now have a tool to write airport data in the new 850 format, which makes many features possible, including curved taxiways, taxi lines (center lines, hold lines, etc.), taxiway signs, and more. The potential is quite tremendous. All packages listed below as updated on 27 Aug. 2007 or later have been updated into this format. Packages listed as updated on 19 Jan. 2008 or later have been tested in X-Plane version 9 (currently in beta), but should still be version 8 compatible.
