Recalling
the ordeal yesterday, Kamloutie Singh, 50, who was wounded in the
robbery, said it happened about 21:00 h.
She and
her husband, Dhanpaul Singh also known as Kumar, 55, a barrack labourer at
Leonora Police Station not far from where they live, had retired for the day
but were aroused by squeaking sounds.
She said
that before they could move to investigate the origin, they were confronted by
the men who had forced open a front door near the verandah.
She said
the robbers, brandishing knives, a handgun and a cutlass, immediately took
pillow cases from their bed, bound and then severely beat them.
The
bandits demanded jewels and money and the Singhs were compelled to deliver
from in a wardrobe.
The wife
said she handed over three cricket bands, five other bands, five finger rings,
five chains, two pair of earrings (all golden), four bottles of cologne, other
cosmetics, one wrist watch, documents including her national identification
(ID) card, a cellular phone, US$300, Cdn$50 and G$10,000.
She
said, not satisfied with what they had already taken, the intruders ordered
them to open the shop and took away cartons of cigarettes, corned beef, corned
mutton, sardines, biscuits, soft drinks, sausages, soap and other merchandise
they stuffed into a haversack and fled.
Police were still hunting for the intruders yesterday.
