A Central man was gunned down in front of his common-law wife on Thursday night, after an armed man stormed his home.

The victim was identified as Churam Omardath, 38, of Longdenville, Chaguanas.

His murder took the toll to 133 for the year.

According to police reports, Omardath and his wife, Sandra Moonoo, were at their Peyton Place Trace home at around 8 pm when an armed man confronted him.

Omardath was reportedly sitting outside one of the bedrooms of the house, which is unfinished and has no front or back door, when the man entered.

His wife was reportedly in her bedroom while their two teenage children, Samantha and Satesh, were studying in their respective bedrooms.

The man reportedly fired several shots, left, then returned and fired upon his victim again.

The assailant then reportedly fled in a car that was parked near the Longdenville Old Road.

When the Guardian visited the home yesterday, Moonoo, 39, was still in a state of disbelief.

She said someone had called earlier and asked for her husband but her daughter, Samantha, had answered the phone.

She said when her daughter called her father to the phone, the person hung up.

The couple had been together for 18 years and had two children.

Moonoo said her husband had been treating her extra special for the past three days and she could offer no reason why anyone would want to kill him.

She said, “I work in Chaguanas in a restaurant and we went to the bank yesterday (Thursday) to open an account.

“He recently started to work with Ramco as a driver and they say he have to open a bank account to get pay.

“When we come home my feet was hurting me and I was lying down on the bed sometime around 8 pm and he was sitting right in front the door on a chair an all I saw was this hand in a glove holding a gun and I hear four shots. I got up and hide behind the wall.”

She added, “Before he was shot he had this frighten look in he eyes as of he wanted to say something and could not talk.

“He fall to the ground and called me ‘Sandy,’ before he could say anything more, then the masked man come back and shoot him again in he head.

“I don’t know why they kill my husband, he was not involved in anything. He was a quiet man.”

Moonoo said her son wrote the CXC exams on Thursday and that both of her children were afraid to go to school yesterday.

Her daughter said she still could not believe that her father was dead.

She said said she hid under the bed when the shots rang out.

“I am afraid to go anywhere. I heard the bullets last night and I can’t get this out of my mind,” she said.
